A vital step in your skilled migration journey. Understanding your occupation code and assessment authority.
ANZSCO stands for the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations. It is a system that collects, publishes, and analyses occupation statistics across government agencies.
For migration purposes, every eligible occupation is assigned a unique 6-digit code. This code defines the task, skill level, and qualification required for that job.
Example: Software Engineer is ANZSCO 261313.
Every occupation has a designated Skill Level (1 to 5) which indicates the range and complexity of the tasks performed.
| Level | Typical Qualification Required | Typical Experience |
|---|---|---|
| Skill Level 1 | Bachelor Degree or Higher | At least 5 years relevant experience may substitute for formal qualification. |
| Skill Level 2 | Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma | At least 3 years relevant experience. |
| Skill Level 3 | Certificate IV or Certificate III with 2 years on-the-job training | At least 3 years relevant experience. |
| Skill Level 4 | Certificate II or III | At least 1 year relevant experience. |
| Skill Level 5 | Certificate I or Secondary Education | Short period of on-the-job training. |
Before you can apply for most skilled visas (189, 190, 491, 186), you must have a positive Skills Assessment from the relevant authority for your nominated occupation.
