On March 31, 2025, Canada launched new, enhanced caregiver pilots to replace the expiring Home Child Care Provider and Home Support Worker pilots. These new pilots offer a more direct and streamlined pathway to permanent residence for qualified caregivers.
The enhanced pilots address feedback from caregivers and employers, making it easier for skilled caregivers to obtain permanent residence and for Canadian families to access care services.
For caregivers already in Canada with a valid work permit. Provides direct pathway to PR for those with Canadian work experience.
Opened March 31, 2025For caregivers currently residing abroad who want to immigrate directly as permanent residents with a job offer.
Opening March 31, 2027The pilots cover two main caregiver occupations under NOC 2021:
At least 6 months of full-time work experience in an eligible caregiver occupation. Experience can be gained inside or outside Canada.
Completion of a relevant in-person training program (at least 6 months) can substitute for work experience.
Full-time job offer from a Canadian home care organization or private family in NOC 44100 or 44101.
Minimum CLB Level 4 in English or French (Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking).
Canadian high school diploma or equivalent foreign credential (with ECA).
Spouse/partner and dependent children can be included in the PR application.
